The Hunts District F.A Cup quarter final

7th March 2016

The Hunts District Primary Schools F.A Cup quarter final match versus Priory Junior School proved to be a close and fierce encounter. The Y6 football team made the away trip full of confidence after their previous 5-1 cup win over Thorndown Primary School. Within minutes of the first whistle, Hemingford produced a well worked team goal. Soon after the first goal Hemingford began to grow in confidence and secured their second of the match, providing a comfortable 2-0 lead with only ten minutes played. However, Priory stuck to the task at hand and worked their way back into the game, maintaining possession and starting to apply pressure on the Hemingford back three. With this pressure Priory forced an own goal from Hemingford and not long after scored a great team goal to level the scores 2-2. Half time provided a quick breather and chat about our strengths and weaknesses. With ten minutes left in the game, Hemingford broke free on the half way line and began a counter attack, some swift passing and a clinical finish gave the lead back to Hemingford 3-2. The final whistle was fast approaching but it didn't come soon enough, as Priory continued to work hard and levelled the scores 3-3, forcing a nail-biting extra time.

Extra time would be five minutes each way, the first half of extra time contained everything from, great saves, hitting the cross bar, and missed chances, which left myself and the travelling supporters with little or no nails...

Hemingford began to take back control of the game and earned themselves a throw in near the Priory box. A long throw into the box caused some miscommunication between the Priory goalkeeper and his defence, a mistimed header lobbing the keeper. Final score: Hemingford Primary School 4 - Priory Junior School 3!

It was a tremendous team effort from everyone involved and a victory was only fitting to match your efforts. You all stuck together and showed great team spirt and sportsmanship. Well done to the Y6 Football team from everyone at Hemingford Grey Primary School. Bring on the semi-finals!!!
