Year 6 Football Team Report
13th March 2017
Had summer come early? The Year 6 footballers could not believe their luck. What fantastic weather the Year 6 football team experienced in their first run out of the year. This was also an opportunity for a number of debutants to leave their mark on HGPS football club, and boy did they.
The team were in high spirit, looking forward to getting this mini campaign under way. With one team dropping out, 3 games stood between us and qualifying for the county competition.
Our first game saw us play St. Helen’s primary school. The game was tense with chances at both end. When suddenly, a St. Helen’s break was on. Only the keeper to beat. But not to worry. With Jake in our goal, we knew we were in safe hands. Springing down to his left, he tipped the ball round the outside of the post. A grateful team were there to show their appreciation. First round, 0-0.
The second game saw us go 1-0 up against Bury Primary School. A blistering run from Afel saw his right footed strike canon into the stanchion of the goal. What a hit. Unfortunately, moments later, a slick move from the opposition caught HGPS off guard and Bury sneaked in a well-coordinated equaliser. Second round, 1-1.
The final round saw us come against Houghton Primary School. The hosts. The atmosphere with the ground was electric. HGPS had to face the home supporters. A tricky task. HGPS held their own until a net splitting strike caught our keeper off guard and found its way into the back of the net. From then onwards, Houghton enjoyed the majority of the possession and won the game 3-0.
As always, the game was played in tremendous spirit and the children have certainly represented HGPS faultlessly. Many thanks must go to Houghton Primary School for being such welcoming hosts.
