A large investment has been made in order to ensure children at Hemingford Grey Primary School can be safe around water.
Children attend school swimming lessons from Year 1 and are assessed regularly to determine whether lessons are required further up the school. We prioritise ensuring we have as many children leaving primary school, confident in water and meeting the National Curriculum requirement.

By 31 July each year, schools are required to publish the percentage of pupils in their year 6 cohort who have met the national curriculum requirement to:
· swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
· use a range of strokes effectively – for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
· perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Hemingford Grey are proud to publish that 85% of children are competent in the above skills.
